The relation Betwwen Alcohol and Weight Loss

 If you manage to drunkenly eat falafel rather than kebab or chips after more than a few glasses of wine you’re basically a health hero right?

Sound familiar? An expert has suggested that alcohol’s influence on our decision-making may actually be more harmful than its own calorie count.

However it is not all doom and gloom as research has found that if alcohol is drunk in moderation it can actually increase some people’s metabolism!

The study saw diabetics drink a moderate amount of wine, with the combination of a healthy diet and in turn this reduced their risk of heart disease and stroke.

Interestingly enough, those that did drink in the study showed no difference in weight gain compared to those who drank no alcohol whatsoever.

 “If your eat white bread or white rice, it often causes the body’s blood glucose to spike.”  Says Dr. Eric Rimm, a professor of epidemiology and nutrition and director of the cardiovascular epidemiology programme at Harvard told The Wall Street Journal.

“Your body needs to produce a lot of insulin to absorb that glucose and as a result, it’s not unusual to feel hungry a few hours later.”

This is a little relief for those of us who like drink or two, but we should still be wary of enjoying them a little too often.

Something that Dr. Rimm has also advised as a technique for maintaining a healthy weight and diet is to keep a journal of what you eat and how it makes you feel, that way you don’t reach for the bottle or the pizza the next time you feel low.
